Hidden Treasure: trusting the LORD with money

Do not let me think we own anything. In the original Hebrew, there is no word for “have”. It never actually appears in the Bible in the original Hebrew. That’s an English translation-attempt. In the Hebrew, it is the phrase: “There is to me…” for I have. Or “there is not to me” for I do not have.

So, all things I “have” are given to me, and I believe they are given to me from the God of the Bible. There is to me. I do not have my food, there is to me food. I do not have any money, there is to me money. I do not have any clothes, there is to me clothes. I like what the original Biblical Hebrew language does to my thought process in my heart of thanks and gratitude to God. He is very Kind and very Holy.

As an introduction, He says to us in Psalm 115:16: “The Heavens of the Heavens are to the LORD but the earth He has given to the children of men.” Meaning He allocates every part of the earth, AS A GIFT, for His purposes. But, this giving and allocation all has incredibly precise heavenly accounting and a day of reckoning. In the last days the futility of humankind thinking they own their wealth will be really obvious. It already is in many ways. Because, today He honed me in on Isaiah 2:20-22: “In that day a man shall throw his silver and his golden idols which they made for him to worship, to the hole of the burrower and to the bats; to go into the crevices of the rocks, and into the clefts of the cliffs, from the dread of the LORD, and from the glory of His majesty; when He rises up to make the earth quake. Cease yourself from man, whose breath is in his nostril, for in what is he to be esteemed?”

The LORD, my King and Redeemer, took my attention to the exact place mankind and womankind throw their money in the end. Into the crevices of the earth. But, where did all the gold and silver that exists today come from in the first place? From the crevices of the earth. Who put it there and Who formed it? “And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters: The name of the first river is Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is pure.” (Genesis 2:8-12).

So, in the beginning the LORD made all the gold in the earth. Through history, mankind then digs it out. Uses it as money. Then, as the centuries pass, uses it to back up paper currencies. Even after the end of the gold standard, makind still uses it today as ‘real money’ in the central banks and governments of the world. But it’s all on loan. Not from a bank but from the LORD Creator of the Universe. And in the end, where does mankind throw it? Back into the crevices of the rocks from where God placed it, when He formed it in the first place in Eden. Full circle.

This means every single coin – real, paper currency or digital - that passes through our and all other people’s hands or bank accounts is really His. What we do with it will be on His record books forever.

Brothers and sisters in Yeshua, do not worry about anyone who steals from you, over-charges you, under-pays or under-values you, threatens to take away your income if you don’t do what they want, or any other financial trickery, through the hyperinflation of food, energy and things we need. Pray for them. God can easily get you what you need and ask for; an infinity of other ways. This next season is His way of moving His children deeper into Trusting Him and obedience to His Word. The rich usually think they own the earth. No, they “have to them”. And if they have taken lots of money to them, through evil acts, in business, government or entertainment, lies and trickery, God will take care of His children, especially into eternity. And hold all to account.

Because He’ll get it all back. It’s all a test and He’s in control of everything.

The most striking example in His Scripture for me of this Biblical principle, of money and the hands that take and touch it for ungodly purposes, is the following. It is very like Isaiah 2, when the wicked throw their gold and silver back into the earth. To share this, I first need to bring out a hidden treasure, in a passage about the Price of Valuing Someone Consecrated to the LORD, in a passage known very well to my Jewish community: “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘When someone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the value of persons, if the valuation concerns a male from twenty to sixty years of age, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. Or if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels / But if the one making the vow is too poor to pay the valuation, he is to present the person before the priest, who shall set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford.” (Leviticus 27:1-8)

Fast forward to Yeshua’s betrayal.

How much was Jesus / Yeshua betrayed for? (Matthew 26:14-15)

30 shekels of silver.

But why thirty? Reading Leviticus above, wasn’t He a male slave? Did you know Yeshua allowed Himself to be betrayed according to Biblical Law, for the value of a female slave – 30 shekels - not a male – 50 shekels?! Every single detail in His Holy Word is there for a reason. His value of betrayal should have been fifty shekels of silver, according to the priests who knew the laws of Leviticus and who set the value of the trade. So, Yeshua was even in control of the amount He was betrayed for! Somehow He made them alter their valuation, in violation of their own laws! And let them arrogantly think it was their idea. They have no idea Who they’re dealing with! And nor does most of mankind today in matters of money. To confirm this idea, God Himself gives a second witness, a second biblical account of Yeshua allowing Himself to be identified with the lowest of the low culturally, women. This isn’t a one off.

“And when He was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the Feast. When those days were over and they were returning home, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but His parents were unaware He had stayed. Assuming He was in their company, they travelled on for a day before they began to look for Him among their relatives and friends. When they could not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him. Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers. When His parents saw Him, they were astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.” “Why were you looking for Me?” He asked. “Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” But they did not understand the statement He was making to them.” (Luke 2:41-50)

Have you ever wondered why we are told the age at which He stayed behind? Why is that so important? It’s because 12 is the age a Jewish girl starts taking more public responsibility to understand The Word of God in the Jewish community (Bat Mitzvah). But, 13 is the age of a boy’s Bar Mitzvah. It is a year earlier for girls because they are believed to mature earlier. This is why His family were surprised. Because He stayed behind a year too early for a boy! I don’t think they wouldn’t have been surprised if He had been found discussing the Torah in the Temple the following year, because this is precisely what a Bar Mitzvah’ed Jewish boy would be doing from his 13^th year: discussing Torah with the teachers in the Temple! Again, He is identifying with the lowest of the low in His culture. It’s like He’s saying something like: “I came to redeem My daughters as well as my sons, I came to give access to My Word equally to women as to men, and I will show you by allowing Myself twice to be valued the same as them, in age as well as money.” How profoundly honouring, healing and above all culture in history for women and girls. He is The Genius. His thirty shekels of silver. He was taking onto Himself even more social humiliation than meets the Western, non-Jewish, eye - while He stood there silently before the Chief Priests, the people and Pilate the governor. He was still teaching us, without saying a word! He was in control of everything, because He is God, even though His betrayers thought they were coming up with the plan.

So, here’s the thing. This eternal record-keeping and accounting. How do we link this passage in Luke, to the original passage in Isaiah, when mankind will throw their silver and gold back into the crevices of the earth from which it started, in the end of days? Where’s the full circle here in Luke? Where do those 30 shekels of silver, that passed through the chief priests' and Judas’s Hands, end up?

“When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people conspired against Yeshua to put Him to death. They bound Him, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor. When Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that Yeshua was condemned, he was filled with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said. “What is that to us?” they replied. “You bear the responsibility.” So, Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.”

Where is the value price of the female slave back in Leviticus presented? In the Temple! "According to the Sanctuary shekel"! Where did Judas throw the 30 shekels in the end? Back in the temple! The money found it ways back to where it Biblically should be. Just like the gold and silver in the end of days. There is to mankind. Mankind never “has” it. It only passes through their hands, to which each and all will give an account. We all touch God’s money every day.

And note another biblical principle. Evil groups always betray each other. It’s written in stone.

So, what do the Chief Priests then do with this money? What is the money’s next stage on its journey back to the LORD Creator of the Universe?

“The chief priests picked up the pieces of silver and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” After conferring together, they used the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.” (Matthew 27:6-9)

Compare it again to the original passage in Leviticus about the value of consecrating people and lands: “When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.” (Leviticus 27:21) All through history, the priests can’t get away from their sins by hiding their blood transaction in a piece of land, rather than the Temple. Like God exposing eternal money laundering. The field, their sins, against His Blood, becomes their property. Imagine having that found in your accounting?! God will examine everything in every person’s hand in His time. He will also examine every hand through which all money and transactions have passed, and will pass. Because every hand has touched, is touching and will touch, what is His. There is to us.

And why the Potter’s Field? Because in Hebrew, the word Potter means “Former” from the verb root “One Who Forms.” Who formed mankind with His Hands?! Who formed the earth?! His Word is all so Perfect and layered with His Control, Power and All-Knowing, All-Seeing Eyes.

There is to us. We as humans do not “have”. And as His Words shows, it all comes full circle. With judgement. There is so much financial evil we do not see. And we as believers don’t need to see it all. Because God sees it all. The human machinations hidden within the coming economic fall out of His judgement are all seen to Him in perfect focus and documenting. So, when you – if you are a follower of Yeshua and child of God - see financial evil, when you see this world and its arrogant minds descend further into financial evil, when you can see people have been bought, do not fret. You are going to see even more of it, especially if you are left behind in the devil’s rageful short time left.

Why this Word now? Because of the financial difficulties on the doorstep of this earth. Hide in the LORD, in His Word. Mankind will be tested economically. Each decision of self-preservation will be recorded. Choose wisely. Do we live according to His Words about money? Are we growing in trust in Him for His Heavenly economy? Trust the LORD. Let the evil, and inflation, you see push you closer and closer into obedience to His Word His Protection and His Supernatural Provision.

When you begin to feel anxious, precious brother and sister in the LORD, remember with me the wicked throwing their silver and gold back into the earth’s crevices in the day of the LORD, from where the LORD originally formed it, as the Potter of the Earth. Remember His betrayal-shekels being thrown back into the Temple, ending up exactly where they Biblically should have been presented. And remember the field that to this day is called the Field of Blood. Because no sin can ever be hidden, financial or otherwise. He keeps accounts of all things. No one can hide from the eyes of the God of the Bible, even when they want the mountains to fall on them to hide them in their Terror of Him! If you are convicted of your part in greed and evil, if you are listening and God has brought you here, there is only one thing that can cover over your field of blood - Yeshua’s Blood. Repent, give your life to Him and He will give you His Blood to cover your sins. Your field will become Holy. Then follow Him through His Holy Word. Obey Him and turn from your sins.

King Yeshua, thank You that there is to me. And the most valuable thing that there is to me is YOU. Thank You for giving me You! Time every day with You to build my relationship with You through Your Holy Word. Time every day to serve You and rest in You and the times you give me to fellowship with Your bride. There is to me Your Company and because I am Yours and You are mine, I have everything, for eternity, and all I need each day until You take me Home! Thank You for Your good kind gifts. Thank You for the truth and eternal power of Your Scriptures. Thank You that You see all things. Help me to hold and use all You give me according to Your Word and Heart. Convict me gently when I am wrong or ignorant according to Your Word. In Yeshua’s Name, Amen.
